Local Highlights & Things to Explore

The area surrounding Hoot Cottage is packed with beautiful walks, scenic viewpoints and plenty of things to see and do. You’ll find detailed walking routes and local tips in our in-house welcome book, but here’s a taste of what’s nearby. Oakworth Railway Station sits just steps away — one of the wonderfully preserved stops on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. These heritage steam trains have run through the Pennine villages since 1867 and remain one of the best ways to experience the nostalgic charm of the area. You may even recognise the station from The Railway Children! The Carriage Works, Engine Shed and the Bahamas Locomotive Society all offer a fascinating glimpse into the region’s railway heritage.

A short stroll or quick drive will bring you to Haworth Village, famous for its cobbled street, independent shops and inviting cafés. Literature lovers can explore the Brontë Parsonage Museum, once home to the Brontë sisters, whose iconic works were inspired by the very moorlands that surround the cottage.

This part of West Yorkshire is truly a dream for walkers. From gentle circular routes around Oakworth and Haworth to more challenging hikes across the Pennine Way and up to Top Withens, there’s something for every level. The countryside offers rolling hills, open moorland, woodland trails, reservoirs and breath-taking views in every direction.

And when you’re ready to refuel, the area is full of charming cafés, cosy pubs and hidden gems serving everything from hearty Yorkshire classics to homemade cakes. Whether you fancy a relaxed breakfast, a pint after a walk or a special evening meal, you’ll find plenty of welcoming spots within easy reach — on foot, by car, or even by steam train.
